The PRS HDRX 20 is a 5881 powered guitar amplifier head that captures the sonic snapshot of storied late 60s British amplifiers. Based on intense study of one of Jimi Hendrix’s amplifiers back in 2018, Paul Reed Smith and Doug Sewell created the HDRX 20 to give players a lower wattage alternative to the more powerful amps in the line.
2 5881 power tubes and 3 12AX7 preamp tubes power the HDRX 20. The 5881s break up early which is perfect for a 20-watt head. The 2-channel amp features an internal bridge so there is no need to jump channels like an old Marshall. Channel 1 has a bass volume control while Channel 2 has Treble Volume and a Bright switch. Both channels share Presence, Master Volume, 3 band EQ, and a Mid Gain on/off control. Lead and bass channels can be adjusted to create the perfect blend of power and distortion, with the overall output controlled by the convenient master volume.
