Gibson’s Acoustic Custom Shop have simply outdone themselves in this model, the Pre-War SJ-200. This majesty of an instrument is a modern-day recreation of one of the earliest examples of a Gibson acoustic guitar as we know them today. Crafted with the finest attention to detail and the most devoted reverence to the original models, this replica of a late 1930s Gibson acoustic guitar tells its story visually and tonally. It’s a piece of musical history you won’t want to miss.
The Pre-War SJ-200 starts out with its uniquely-shaped body crafted from a select Thermally Aged Adirondack red spruce top and rosewood back and sides. A two-piece maple neck in a “D”-shaped profile and bound ebony fingerboard come together for a period-accurate shape in hand. The full voice of this guitar rings out with a pristine vintage tone that captures the smallest qualities of acoustic mastery Gibson had already garnered by the late ’30s. Traditional hand-scalloped “X”-bracing keeps the tonal experience fully authentic. The Pre-War SJ-200 stands out not only tonally but visually. The guitar is adorned with Mother-of-pearl fret inlays, multi-ply binding, a captivating pickguard design, and Four Bar Moustache bridge. Accompanied by a Gibson period-correct case and accessory kit, the Pre-War SJ-200 presents a full Gibson experience for the player who picks it up. Gibson’s legacy extends deep into American history, and with this model hand-built in Bozeman, Montana, that history continues on.
